What is Black Ointment?

Black ointment, also known as black salve, is a commercial product called Cansema and is distributed as an alternative cancer treatment. Black ointment is derived from the Sanguinaria canadensis plant, native to northeastern North America and traditionally called bloodroot by Native Americans.1

Black Ointment Health Uses and Health Benefits

Black ointment health benefits come from some of its active ingredients, including zinc chloride and sanguinarine from the plant’s extract. When black ointment is applied to skin abnormalities, these active ingredients are thought to help heal and repair the skin. Black ointment may leave scars on the skin, but people do continue to use it for lesions, warts, skin tags and skin cancer.1
