Home Remedies and Herbs for Peyronie's Disease

What is Peyronie's Disease?

Peyronie’s disease is a condition in men where fibrous scar tissue develops in the penis. This leads to a curved penis and painful erections. Typically, penises come in many different shapes and sizes and some may have natural curves or bends in one direction or another. In general, this isn’t a serious or concerning condition on its own and isn’t painful.1 However, when a man has Peyronie’s disease, they can suffer severe pain and discomfort because of a significant bend or curve. Because of this pain, it prevents men from being able to have and enjoy sex. They may not even be able to get or maintain an erection because of Peyronie’s disease. This can cause men to experience stress and anxiety.1 It’s possible in some men for Peyronie’s disease to heal itself over time. In most cases, Peyronie’s disease remains the same or even worsens. Thankfully, there are Peyronie’s natural treatments that can be used to heal the curvature and prevent painful intercourse.1

What Causes Peyronie’s Disease?

The exact Peyronie’s disease cause isn’t fully known. Researchers feel that there is perhaps a few different factors that could be potential Peyronie’s disease causes.2 One of the main possible Peyronie’s disease causes may be due to repeated or prolonged injury to the penis. This could result from damage undergone during sex or during physical activity such as with sports injuries. It may also be the result of an accident.2 After the injury and as the penis start to heal, it’s possible that it develops irregular scar tissue. This may form a nodule within the penis that causes the penis to curve. In a regular erect penis, the tissue inside the penis stretches as the blood flow increases. However, in a penis with Peyronie’s disease, the penis may be unable to stretch due to the scar tissue. This is perhaps why an erection becomes painful.2
